THE NINE SISTERS - A Rare Alignment of Ancient Volcanic Peaks
This book project is about appreciating and preserving the natural grandeur and beauty of this San Luis Obispo landscape. I hope you enjoy viewing these images as much as I did in photographing them.
The Nine Sisters are an ancient chain of volcanic peaks that stretch in a rare alignment of hills from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay, California. They are of great geological interest and support a wide variety of plant, animal and bird life. The peaks were created over 20,000,000 years ago as volcanic plugs of magma which welled up and solidified inside softer rock which since has been eroded.
These striking landmarks offer local residents and visitors protection from frequent winds and a constant visual view of natural beauty. The craggy mountains rose from the ocean over 20 million years ago and were formed from the plugs of long-extinct volcanoes.
